Sam is Managing Partner for Strategic Business Solutions (SBS), the operating board responsible for designing and delivering Barnett Waddingham's enabling, non-client facing services and infrastructure that support our overall client offering, while ensuring they remain sustainable and optimal for the long-term.
The SBS Board has oversight of Business Development, Central Operations, Finance, Governance & Risk, Marketing, People, Property and Technology.
Sam is a qualified actuary with pension scheme consulting experience. He began his career advising trustees of UK occupational pension schemes before ‘moving sideways’ to focus on developing the technology we provide to our clients.
Prior to taking on the role of Managing Partner, Sam was Head of IT at BW for 17 years, where he was responsible for all technology delivery. He remains passionate about using technology intelligently to support the success of our solutions in meeting each of our clients’ unique needs.
He has former board-level experience having served on BW's Management Board from 2010 to 2016.
Sam is deeply invested in driving operational efficiency and empowering teams. He has a strong track record of building motivated and engaged teams who enjoy their work.
Significant experience:
- responsible for establishing and managing the software development team who created Penstream (BW’s in-house pension scheme administration software)
- experience advising on corporate pension matters – a useful background when devising technology solutions suited to our clients
- oversaw implementation of ISO 27001 – Information Security Management System – at BW
- certified ISMS Lead Implementer (CIS LI), International Board for IT Governance Qualifications (IBITGQ)
