Mark advises trustees of defined benefit (DB) pension schemes. He provides actuarial, consultancy and strategic advice on a wide variety of issues to enable clients to understand and effectively manage their pension scheme risks.

He acts as support actuary and primary contact on a range of clients, the largest being a £2.3bn scheme. He is also a member of both Barnett Waddingham’s Pensions Actuarial Technical Committee and Pensions Actuarial Systems Group. These committees consider important topical actuarial issues, and produce business wide guidance and tools.

Mark advises trustee clients and sponsors on scheme funding and valuations. He provides long-term funding target and de-risking advice. In addition to technical business wide guidance on a range of issues, including setting actuarial factors. He also advises on setting mortality assumptions, including undertaking a range of longevity analyses.


Significant experience:

  • Advising on the merger of two c. £1bn schemes
  • Advising on asset-backed contribution arrangements in a scheme funding context
  • Working with investment advisers to develop ‘journey plan’ frameworks
