Joe provides support for a range of general insurance clients, with a particular focus on reserving, SII and Standard Formula calculations.
He has gained significant experience within the general insurance (GI) industry over the last 20 years, with exposure across all actuarial functions and various stakeholders within the business. Joe has worked across a wide range of GI portfolio’s during his career and has reviewed emerging classes such as Cyber.
Joe has extensive experience of developing reserving models and processes to improve efficiency, maximising the transparency and value added to business stakeholders. He has been heavily involved in the initial implementation and ongoing management of SII.
He has provided support to risk functions and has managed the quarterly control cycle with regards to this for the actuarial function. He has also performed stress and scenario testing for the ORSA.
Significant experience
- Joe has been a key member of the Major Event Response team for a large London Market Insurer which covered issues such as inflation, the invasion of Ukraine and Covid-19.
- Responsible for the documentation of reserving risks and controls along with the annual review and modification of these
- Supported data stewards in terms of documenting the main data items feeding the reserving process / Internal Model
- Developed relationships with various business functions to enhance their understanding and ability to provide expert judgment to the reserving and reserve risk processes; this has included the implementation of claims watchlists and the level of governance around this
- Has played a key role in delivering a reserving process and governance transformation for a large multinational insurer following a Section 166
