David is the Head of Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) Investment at Barnett Waddingham, leading our team focused on providing specialist LGPS investment advice. David also oversees the integration of the investment team with our wider LGPS proposition across actuarial and governance, which is currently utilised by around one quarter of LGPS Funds.

David is an experienced partner with over 20 years’ experience advising pension funds of all sizes and types, including advising very large funds on all aspect of their investment governance. David is also a committed proponent of sustainability in investment and was one of the senior leadership who founded the Sustainable Investment Team at BW.

David has tremendous enthusiasm for building and developing teams and has contributed significantly to the growth of the Investment Team, and particularly in both Cheltenham and Bristol. David is a passionate advocate of the culture of BW and how we work to do the right thing for clients.

As well as his client responsibilities, David is Head of the People side of the Investment Consulting Team and plays a significant role in identifying the next generation of Senior Leadership talent at Barnett Waddingham as part of the BW Nominations Board.

Career

David graduated from the University of Bristol with a BSc (Hons) degree in Mathematics and joined Barnett Waddingham’s Cheltenham office in September 2003.  David joined the Investment Consultancy team in 2008 when it became a specialist business area; he is a CFA Charterholder and also holds the CFA UK Investment Management Certificate.

In 2018, David moved to our Bristol Office to establish the Bristol Investment Consulting team and also became Office Lead for Bristol. He was made a Partner at Barnett Waddingham in 2020, before returning to the Cheltenham office in 2023.

Interests

Outside of work, David is a keen Rugby and Cricket fan, and is very much enjoying supporting his two young sons’ first forays into the wonderful world of sport.
