Athos leads the Data Engineering Team within IT, a group of data specialists able to meet the diverse reporting and data analytics requirements of Barnett Waddingham in a rapidly changing world.
He is also responsible for the day-to-day running of the databases behind all the production systems at BW.
Athos is a subject matter expert for databases and data engineering. This includes data analysis, data architecture, database administration, cloud architecture, automation, DevOps, and ETL.
He spearheaded the adoption of DevOps principles and culture within BW IT. This included introducing the ideas of Agile, Lean, Scrum, and Continuous Deployment to streamline the software project lifecycle.
Athos has represented IT on the Pensions Actuarial Software Group, helping to develop spreadsheet systems, and spent nine months on secondment with Pensions Actuarial.
He was the initial creator of both Connect (BW's in-house CRM system), and Bulk Mail (BW's email system). Athos has also helped develop many other systems in use in the firm (including Pensions Dashboard, V5/V8, BWWord, Directory, Party WebSite), and has worked on the database aspect of all the rest.
Significant experience:
- Helped develop Insight, which provides pensions schemes data direct to Trustees.
- Data architecture consultant for our SIPP, Illuminate, Taskstream, Penstream and other systems.
- Set up, maintained and curated our Tableau environment.
- Worked on the first major product in our new Cloud environment and helped establish how cloud based software projects should be structured in this environment and what the standards and conventions should be.
- Looked after BW’s databases for over 20 years, ensuring they are secure, optimised, and free from problems
