We'll be exploring the various approaches schemes are adopting for their DB schemes, following the DWP's 2024 consultation on scheme options.
We note that whilst funding asymmetries have pushed DB schemes towards de-risking and buy-outs, a changing landscape means that running on a scheme has become more attractive for some schemes, benefiting members and sponsors through sharing surpluses.
Recent discussions have largely focussed on likely new legislation and implications for schemes. Based on our experience with schemes considering or pursuing longer-term run-on, we’ll advance the discussion to consider practicalities. We’ll explore why certain schemes have decided to run-on while others have decided to move towards a buy-in/buyout.
