Impact of Pension Schemes on UK Business - 2013
The increasing size and volatility of defined benefit (DB) pension scheme deficits are well reported but how significant are they and what impact are they having on UK Business?
Building on the research we have carried out over the last couple of years we have considered this issue with input from the Centre for Global Finance at the University of the West of England.
Among other things, this year’s report highlighted the impact large deficits are having on shareholder returns with 23 FTSE350 companies having paid more towards clearing their DB scheme deficit than they did to shareholders in the form of dividends.
The research project will allow businesses with DB schemes to benchmark themselves against their peers.
