Promotions and new hires in our Glasgow office have seen our Public Sector actuarial consulting team take a big step forward.

The team has added a new Senior Consulting Actuary, with Chris Morton joining as an Associate. Having previously worked at both Hymans Robertson and Buck Consultants, Chris brings over a decade of experience advising LGPS funds, Police and Fire Authorities and other not-for-profit organisations to the team. He has also worked with occupational pension scheme trustees and corporate employers in the private sector.

On joining our public sector team, Chris said: “The Public Sector team’s strength-in-depth already delivers value for money for LGPS funds and members, and I aim to build on these strengths by supporting our clients with data-driven innovations, combining my previous experience of public sector consulting with my wider experience of assisting employers with strategic pension and benefit decisions.”

"I’m excited to be joining Barnett Waddingham, whose culture and independence motivates their people to bring innovative ideas and deliver excellent service to clients, by focusing on solutions that work for pension schemes, employers and, ultimately, members."

Alongside this new addition, three existing team members have been promoted to senior roles. Roisin McGuire has been promoted to Principal, while Matthew Paton and Liam Drysdale have both been promoted to Associate.

Roisin McGuire joined Barnett Waddingham in 2007 and is the People Leader to the Public Sector Practice as well as directly advising several of our key LGPS funds. During her time at Barnett Waddingham, Roisin has developed and maintained strong working relationships with LGPS funds to anticipate the needs of the funds and their members. Commenting on her promotion to Principal, Roisin said: “I believe that as a team, our people are our greatest asset and on promotion to Principal, I look forward to working with the Partners and wider team to strengthen and develop our team, securing our position within the LGPS market.”

Matthew Paton joined Barnett Waddingham in 2011.  As well as advising several LGPS funds, Matthew is Head of Technical for the Public Sector Practice and also specialises in advising Police and Fire Authorities, particularly in producing annual accounting disclosures. Commenting on his promotion to Associate, Matthew said: “Over the last 12 years, I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the public sector team and supporting the significant growth we have had during that time. My focus will continue to be on delivering the tools, advice and support that will provide effective solutions for our clients’ needs.”

Liam Drysdale started within the Public Sector team in 2014.  He directly advises several LGPS funds, was heavily involved in leading the 2022 valuation exercise and has recently taken ownership of our efficient integrated task management processes, used internally and by our clients. Liam commented on his promotion to Associate: “I am excited about my new role as Associate in the Public Sector Team. I am looking forward to working with individuals more closely in performance and development reviews, to help them realise their full potential.”

These appointments come at an exciting time for Barnett Waddingham as we continue to expand and cement our position as an employer of choice within the pensions market.

"We have an incredibly strong Public Sector team and investing in the team has and will allow us to better serve our clients and achieve our goals together."

Barry McKay, Partner in our Public Sector team, added: “Roisin, Matthew and Liam have strived to develop their skills and their promotions reflect their talent and their contribution to our business and our clients over the last decade.  We continue to grow and develop as a team, and so we are delighted to welcome Chris as a significant hire, whose experience and skills will add to the existing strengths of the team.”
