We are expanding our Public Sector Consultancy offerings with the appointment of a highly experienced senior consultant.
Gavin Paul has recently joined Barnett Waddingham’s Public Sector Consulting team as a Senior Pensions Consultant.
His main role is to advise public sector clients on issues arising under the statutory and non-statutory schemes in which they participate, particularly in connection with their duties and obligations under those schemes. In addition, Gavin will advise on matters of governance and on the interpretation of the regulations, rules and guidance governing the schemes.
Gavin has over 20 years’ experience as a pensions lawyer. Before joining Barnett Waddingham, Gavin was a pensions lawyer with Eversheds Sutherland, having previously worked at Pinsent Masons. Gavin was part of the public sector pensions team at Eversheds Sutherland and has particular experience advising clients on the pension obligations arising on public to private outsourcing contracts (including retenders of existing contracts), the bulk transfer issues which can arise on such transfers, and advising administering authorities with their IDRPs.
Speaking on his appointment, Gavin said: "When working with internal and external clients, I like to provide tailored advice that is both pragmatic and succinct and gives a clear steer on what they need to do next, this is a value Barnett Waddingham and the Public Sector team share."
"I have always enjoyed advising on public sector pensions, particularly, the Local Government Pension Scheme, and I am relishing the opportunity to consider the schemes in greater detail and to work with people who are experts in the field."
Melanie Durrant, Senior Consulting Actuary in our Public Sector team, added: "Gavin brings another level of expertise to BW which will inevitably provide our clients with multi-dimensional and bespoke services to suit their needs. His outstanding knowledge in the public sector arena is well placed to support clients meet their obligations."
